Key Trends Among Forbes Travel Guide 2026 Winners
Hospitality Leans Into Intimacy and Privacy
A clear trend emerges among the Forbes Travel Guide 2026 winners: luxury hospitality is shifting toward smaller-scale, highly personalized experiences. Properties emphasize privacy, bespoke service, and intimate settings over grand lobbies and massive room counts.
This evolution reflects changing traveler preferences, with guests seeking properties that offer sanctuary, authenticity, and genuine connection rather than simply opulent amenities. The rise of hotel-within-a-hotel concepts, boutique properties, and destination resorts demonstrates that today's luxury travelers value exclusivity and personalization above all else.
Expansion to 100+ Countries
The 2026 Star Awards represent a major milestone, spanning more than 100 countries for the first time. New destinations include Bhutan, Croatia, Georgia, Grenada, Laos, Poland, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Uzbekistan — reflecting luxury hospitality's global expansion and the democratization of world-class service standards.
"Forbes Travel Guide's newest Star Award winners showcase an exciting evolution in luxury," says Amanda Frasier, FTG's President of Standards & Ratings. "As guests navigate the increasingly complex travel landscape for the best places to stay, sail, dine and spa, we are proud to provide them with the trusted, integrity-based guidance they need."
Understanding Forbes Travel Guide Ratings
Forbes Travel Guide is the only global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants, spas, and ocean cruises. Service quality accounts for approximately 70% of the total score.
The only way to earn a Five-Star, Four-Star, or Recommended rating is through Forbes Travel Guide's independent inspection process. Inspectors pose as regular guests, paying their own way and experiencing every aspect of a property to ensure authentic, unbiased evaluations.
